Detailed description
Crowns
The constant progress of science causes annual increase of the number of new materials and techniques of their processing. Currently the prosthetics is going through a renaissance. The dental crowns are being prepared from the materials in colour of the teeth and this is only patient's decision if they are fused to metal or to ceramic.
In the past years, when the new branch of dentistry has been rising – prosthetics – broken or chipped teeth were rebuilt by metal „caps” called crowns. The crowns were made from various kinds of metal alloys. Crowns made from gold alloys were very popular.
After invention of CAD/CAM technology, reasonable dentists' and patients' expectations finally came true. The era of metal crowns came to an end. We entered the new era of esthetic ceramic crowns which look is impossible to distinguish from natural teeth.
Most often when we talk about full – ceramic crowns we think of crowns made from dental ceramic fused with the layers to zirconium underpin or other metal free underpin. They are used to reconstruct demaged paitent's own teeth or to be fitted on implants. Depending on material used to make the underpin, they can have different names: LAVA, Zirconium, IPS Emax. The crowns of this type are currently the most often selected by patients during the prosthetic treatment.
Conventional bridges.
Bridge is an aesthetic complement, permanently cemented to the patient's own teeth. Bridges are performed when the missing tooth gap is surrounded by teeth on two sides. Bridges provide the patient a perfectly aesthetic and functional effect, as well as the convenience of use. The main disadvantage when performing conventional bridges is the need to grind at least two teeth next to the gap. Many times the teeth intended to grind - the pillar teeth should be firstly endodontically treated because of their non-parallel setting in the dental arch. Currently the most commonly the bridges are manufactured of porcelain fused to zirconium oxide underpin, which ensures maximum aesthetics.
In the case when several teeth are missing and the bridge cemented to patient's own teeth can not be made, for example due to lack of pillar teeth, are made the bridges cemented or screwed to the implants.
