Inlays
When the cavity in the tooth is too large to be permanently fixed with classic filling, the dentist can reconstruct the missing piece of the tooth with ceramic inlay, onlay or overlay. They are embossed in porcelain in the dental laboratory based on the impression taken by the dentist. Such fillings fit into the cavity very precisely, so that after cementing, the reconstruction of the tooth is very
durable and aesthetic, much more durable than the standard composite filllings.
Veneers
The dentist may use the veneer during the treatment, when the structure of the visible surface of the tooth is damaged or chipped, there are many unsightly fillings, the incisal edge is jagged and the surface is uneven or damaged. Most frequently the veneers are the thin "slices" of porcelain sticked by the dentist to the visible surface of the tooth. Basically the most beautiful veneers are made of porcelain. Composite veneers are not as resistant to abrasion, use and discoloration as the porcelain ones. The best effects are acheived by using very thin and transparent veneers. To mask dark and discoloured teeth - for example as a result of root canal treatment, the veneers are not likely recommended to use.
